African Food Fellowship mourns board member Dorothy Mukhebi

The African Food Fellowship is deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and advisory board member, Ms Dorothy Mukhebi. Dorothy joined the African Food Fellowship in 2023, and has contributed immensely to our work, helping to shape the Fellowship’s growth and vision for success.
“Dorothy was a Fellow, a member of our advisory board, and was deeply engaged in helping us to set the AFF up for the future. We have lost a friend, a courageous food systems leader, and a key figure in our new governance model. Our thoughts are with her family in these difficult times,” said AFF Executive Director Pascal Murasira.

Dorothy was a distinguished food systems leader who was influential in building the research and development capacity of institutions across Africa, especially narrowing the gender gap in leadership spaces. She was a regular face at AFF events, charming everyone with her smile and generous with her words of wisdom. She was passionate about reducing hunger and poverty in Africa and excited about building the capacities of leaders to carry this mission.
Former AFF Executive Director Alex Rees also eulogised Dorothy as an amazing collaborator who will be greatly missed.
“She brought warmth, kindness, deep insight and a calm yet engaging spirit to the advisory board of the African Food Fellowship over the years – drawing from her wonderful co-creation – AWARD – empowering women across the continent to bring their leadership to agricultural research over many years. Condolences to her husband, daughters and wider family and friends,” said Alex.
“I loved being around Dorothy. I admired her wit, calm demeanour, insight, and megawatt smile. I will miss her. May her memory always be a blessing. May her family and friends find comfort,” added Debisi Araba, who served on the AFF board with Dorothy.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Dorothy’s family, friends, and all those affected by this loss. We share in the sorrow of her passing and honour her invaluable contributions.
