The African Food Fellowship is delighted to announce that applications are now open for its 2023 cohort of Fellows. The Fellowship opened applications simultaneously in Rwanda and Kenya, and aims to recruit 80 food systems practitioners, 40 for each country. In Rwanda, the Fellowship is targeting applicants working in the impact areas of Access to Nutritious Foods, Sustainable Land Use or Food Technology & Trade, while in Kenya, it will be accepting applications from people working in Horticulture, Aquaculture and Agri-finance.
“Change in our food systems begins with a shift in how leadership is curated to address systemic issues. We encourage farmers, policy makers, private sector actors, academics, researchers, and public and civil society actors to apply. Successful applicants will commence their leadership journey in July 2023, starting off with the prestigious ten-month Food Systems Leadership Programme offered by world-class instructors from Wasafiri Consulting and Wageningen University & Research. They will then graduate into the Kenya and Rwanda Food Fellowships, respectively, which are lifelong impact networks of change makers. The Fellowship charges a fee of USD800, payable in two installments. A limited number of scholarships are available for those who can demonstrate they need it.
The Fellowship is now in its third year, boasting of two cohorts in both Rwanda and Kenya who have been at the vanguard of food systems transformations in their respective sectors. The Fellowship graduated its inaugural cohorts in both countries last year, and is currently taking its second cohorts through the food systems leadership programme. Since their induction into the Fellowship, they have been working on initiatives and projects that have pushed the needle to create fairer, healthier and regenerative food systems.
