Proscovia Alando

Proscovia is an Aquaculture Fellow, systems entrepreneur, and strategic advisor working at the intersection of Africa’s blue economy, food systems, and capital. She is the Founder of Samaky Hub, where she leads initiatives that strengthen sustainability, resilience, and investment readiness across aquaculture and blue food systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Her work focuses on aligning capital, policy, and on-the-ground realities, with particular attention to women and youth. She played a key role in the development of Kenya’s first aquaculture insurance product in collaboration with private sector partners, and continues to advance farmer visibility, circular innovations, and policy-relevant engagement across the sector.

Proscovia has supported over 80 ventures across 10 countries, contributing to the development of inclusive value chains and more durable market systems. Her work sits at the interface of grassroots realities and institutional ambition, engaging with investors, governments, development finance institutions, and ecosystem actors to design approaches grounded in continuity, governance, and long-term value creation.

She holds an MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture from the University of Stirling, UK, awarded through the Commonwealth Scholarship. Her approach combines systems thinking with practical field engagement to support lasting transformation in Africa’s food systems.
