Strategic Advisory Circle holds inaugural meeting

The African Food Fellowship’s newly appointed Kenya Strategic Advisory Circle (SAC) held its inaugural meeting in Nairobi on May 20, 2022.

This was the first of a monthly meet-up where members will work together to design the future of the Kenya Country Fellowship. Members were drawn from the recently graduated cohort and represent all three impact areas of aquaculture, horticulture and agri-finance. They include Tom Ogweno, Erick Ogello, Winnie Yegon, Grace Njoroge and Alex Akidiva. They were chosen from a self-nomination process based on their commitment and availability to dedicate their time and skills to the Circle.

“I am hopeful that the team, with the support of the other Fellows, will be able to advance the Fellowship agenda, including enhanced engagement, brand promotion and expanding opportunities for growth in the food systems conversations. I am happy to be here,” said Dr Ogello, who is also a lecturer at Maseno University.

This first meeting saw the members discuss the Circle’s role within the Fellowship, its agenda and priorities as well as a review of the Fellowship’s calendar. They also decided on the structure of the first Festival Dialogue scheduled for June 24 to discuss the most salient food systems trends and events in the country. Two other Dialogues will be held before November to build momentum for the inaugural Transfrom Food Kenya Festival slated towards the end of the year.
